MQTT Notifier – Privacy Policy

Effective date: 9 October 2026

In short: MQTT Notifier does not collect, sell or share any of your data. Your settings, including your broker username and password, stay in your own browser and are only sent to the MQTT broker that you configure yourself. The developer runs no servers and receives no data.

What the extension does

MQTT Notifier is a browser extension that connects to an MQTT broker of your choice, listens for messages on the topics you configure, and shows a notification and an alert window when a message matches one of your rules. It can also send messages you type to one of your configured topics.

Data the extension stores

The extension stores only the settings you enter on its settings page:

DataPurpose
Broker WebSocket URL and client IDTo connect to your MQTT broker.
Broker username and password (optional)To log in to your MQTT broker.
Rules (topics, types, titles)To decide which messages trigger an alert.
Images / GIFs you upload or link toTo show in the alert window.
Display preferencesNotification, alert window size and auto-close time.
Last used rule and messageTo pre-fill the send popup next time.

These settings are kept in the browser's local extension storage on your device. The connection status and the most recent alert are kept in temporary in-memory storage only and are discarded when the browser closes.

Where data is sent

Nothing else is transmitted. The extension contains no analytics, tracking, advertising or telemetry, and it does not send any data to the developer or to any other third party. The developer cannot see your settings or messages.

Sharing and sale of data

Your data is not sold, rented, shared or transferred to anyone. It is not used for any purpose other than the extension's single purpose described above, and it is not used to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

Browser permissions

PermissionWhy it is needed
storage, unlimitedStorageSaving your settings and uploaded GIFs locally.
notificationsShowing system notifications for matching messages.
alarmsPeriodically checking the connection and reconnecting if it was lost.
system.display (Chrome / Edge only)Positioning the alert window in the corner of your screen.

The extension does not request access to websites, tabs or browsing history.

Security

Your password is stored unencrypted in your browser's local extension storage, which is protected by your operating system account. We recommend using a wss:// (encrypted) broker URL and a broker account that only has the permissions this extension needs. When you export your settings, the password is left out unless you explicitly choose to include it; keep exported files with a password in a safe place.

Retention and deletion

Your settings remain on your device until you change them or remove the extension. Removing the extension deletes all of its stored data from your browser.
